Like many educated people in Cameroon, Timothee Awanga found that a college degree did not guarantee him a better life. His life changed for the better when he learnt to cultivate an abundant natural resource in his home village – bees.
He became an entrepreneur selling bees and their by-products, honey and beeswax. Now he is using bees to transform the lives of many others near Yaoundé. He is teaching hundreds of young people to set up little honey enterprises of their own.
Timothee Awanga, 42, teaches 15 Cameroonian youths about honey-bee colonies near his home in Matomb, a village 70 km from Yaoundé. He takes them through his 30 bee hives, each of which holds at least 30,000 bees.
He waits until nighttime, when the hive is full of worker bees returned from collecting nectar. Then he locks the hive and brings it to his trainee bee farmers.
Providing training
After graduating from university 20 years ago Awanga had no job, so he decided to return to his village. There, he began harvesting honey from bee hives. Selling bees, honey and beeswax has helped him provide for his wife and four children, and he also has trained several hundred Cameroonians to be bee farmers.
Andrew Guizele, one of the youths Awanga has taught, now has his own bee farm in Nkolbison, on the capital’s outskirts.
A strategic honey development programme has created seven jobs in Nkolbison since it began five months ago, he says, and the hope is to expand the village industry to other suitable areas.
Cameroon now sees honey as a non-timber forest product that can help reduce poverty, strengthen biodiversity and conserve natural resources. The government uses Awanga’s bee enterprise as a pilot centre for future bee farms.
The nation’s livestock minister, Dr Taiga, says bee farming is being promoted in all of the country’s agricultural training centres – not only to create jobs and generate revenues, but also to conserve environmental resources.
The training teaches young people not only how to become professional bee farmers, he says, but also to grow their enterprises, to create more jobs and economically empower other young Cameroonians.
The Ministry of Agriculture estimates there are 20,000 farmers in this country who earn about 30% of their annual income from selling honey, bees and related products. The government is unable to say how much honey they produce, because it tends to be traded in small quantities in local markets where sales are not recorded.
However, those who are trying to transform bees and honey into money and wealth face plenty of difficult problems – from hive construction, to a lack of storage and processing equipment, to bush fires, pests and a shortage of skilled labour. – VOA
Joseph Haule AKILA KIAPO CHA UBUNGE WA MIKUMI SIKU YA TAREHE 18/11/2015.
Joseph Haule (born December 29, 1975), popularly known as Professor Jay, is a Tanzanian hip hop artist and member of the Tanzanian parliament for Mikumi constituency. He is one of the prominent representantives of the "Bongo Flava" Tanzanian hip hop subgenre, which mixes elements from both Western hip hop and the Tanzanian tradition (including swahili lyrics as well as an activist attitude towards Tanzanian social issues such as HIV/AIDS, wealth, inequality, and political corruption)
He started rapping in 1994 as a member of the group Hard Blasters, best known for their hit "Chemsha Bongo" (then he used stage name Nigga J) from their first album, "Funga Kazi". Only one year later, they won the title of best hip-hop group in Tanzania.
During his solo career which he started in 2001, he has released number of hits, including "Nikusaidiaje" and "Zali la Mentali (feat Juma Nature)". Other songs released by Professor Jay include "Piga Makofi" and "Yataka Moyo". Just like Mr. II, he is a pioneering Tanzanian MC, who have remained some of the most popular hip hop musicians in Tanzania, despite influx of many new bidders. Also similar to Mr. II his lyrics often have political messages. In one of his songs he imitates an elder politician and ridicules the fake promises they all mindlessly spew as they are trying to get elected. The song continues with a chorus saying the words "Ndio Mzee" which means "Yes Sir". This represents the brain washing of the public as politicians make these false promises over and over. It is interesting to note however, that after this song was produced, the president of Tanzania referenced the lyrics in one of his speeches, which acknowledged the presence of Bongo Flava and the success of Professor Jay's political lyrics.
His first album, "Machozi, Jasho na Damu," gained instant recognition for which Professor Jay won several awards. He attained other awards such as the best hip-hop album in Tanzania with his second album, "Mapinduzi halisi".
Professor Jay's songs include Nikusaidiaje (featuring Ferooz), Nimeamini (featuring Lady Jaydee), Inatosha (featuring Sugu), Vuta raha (featuring Ferooz), Border kwa border (featuringNazizi), Heka heka za star, Interlude, J.O.S.E.P.H., Nisamehe (featuring Banana), Wapi nimakosea, Una, Hakuna Noma, Jina Langu, Bongo Dar es Salaam, Piga Makofi, Msinitenge, Sio Mzee, Zali la Mentali, Nidivyo Sivyo, Mtazamo (featuring Afande Sele and Solo Thang), Hapo Sawa. Professor Jay is featured on Nonini's song "Kumekucha"

As Wizkid revealed a few days ago via his “Good Times” freestyle, here’s an official single from the Starboy CEO titled “Final (Baba Nla)”. The Legendury Beatz produced song is expected to be part of Wizkid‘s EP billed to drop before the end of the year. When we have more concrete info on that, we’ll bring it to you. In the meantime, bump this joint.
If you walked into an art gallery and touched a priceless painting, you'd rightly expect to be manhandled out and bounced off the premises. But in the case of Madrid's Prado Museum, you might just get away with it. It's just launched an unusual exhibition where visitors are encouraged to touch some of the most famous paintings in the world. Something that's especially designed for blind people and the visually impaired to experience and enjoy.
Of course, those who visit the Hoy toca el Prado exhibition – Touching the Prado – aren't exactly feeling the real deal. They're in fact touching an extremely high-resolution replica of each painting, created using the latest 3D printing technology. Called DidĂș, the special printing process was invented in Spain by printing studio Estudios Durero using various subtitle textures and layers.
The show features six replicas of famous artworks from the likes of Leonardo Da Vinci and Francisco Goya, and each one is designed to be touched and appreciated, particularly by those who are blind or visually impaired, so they're able to connect with the visual art world for what is often the very first time.
